The Royal Sands, Cancun Mexico

The Royal Sands in Cancun Mexico has been our Christmas home for  2 decades.  We love it here!  The Sands does an incredible job of decorating the place for the holidays.  Once we enter the lobby of the Sands, we can see right through the front windows of the breathtaking Caribbean waters and we know we are home.  The colour of the water just never gets old.

Even riding up the glass elevator and seeing the vast expanse of the lagoon is pretty.

The quick rain storms that sometimes sweep by provide some very dramatic skies like you see below.

The beach changes every year that we return to the Royal Sands. It ebbs and flows just like a giant sandbar.

There are many daily activities at the Sands that our family partakes in.  There is Beach Volleyball at 3:00 pm every day except check-in day.

Darren sometimes does the Blackjack at 4:00 pm.  There is Happy Hour down at the Beach from 3-6:00 pm.  They do make the best Margaritas and Chocolate Monkeys.

The Sports bar has Karaoke twice a week that we enjoy going to as we know a good group of Americans now and all of our children play volleyball so we all hang together at the beach and Karaoke nights.

The two-bedroom/two-bathroom lock-off units are great!  The primary suite is large with access to the expansive balcony.  The bed is comfy and there is a walk-in closet to hang up clothes and store your suitcases.  The sink is separate from the tub and toilet, which is a good design.  The spare bedroom is much the same except there are two beds and a small kitchenette and it has its own entrance to a small balcony.  The living room is large with two pull-down murphy beds.

The dining room seats 6 and the ample kitchen space has been refurbished with solid surface countertops and new cabinets.  You can make a complete turkey dinner in this kitchen and we do it every year as displayed to the upper left.

The balcony is my favourite spot because it is so large, it is like another room and the views no matter what time of day are spectacular.  All rooms will have a view of the ocean and large pool.  There is even an upper lane to do laps if that is how you like to exercise.  There is a second phase to the Royal Sands and you have access to all of the pools and restaurants etc.

The CANCUN sign down at the beach is great for picture-taking moments.

The grounds are well-maintained and very pleasant to look at.

You won't find a more well-run and well-managed resort than the Royal Sands.  The staff is excellent and does not change over much because they are treated well by the Royals.

I love to sit on the balcony at night, when it is calm and quiet and watch the cruise ships go by.  They are all lit up like Christmas trees.

We love it here and will return year after year!
