Del Dios Highlands County Preserve Trailhead, Escondido California

Image
Holy Hell, embarking on this mountain trail proved to be an invigorating journey that tested both our physical stamina and mental fortitude. Despite the gruelling 60-minute ascent, predominantly designed for the likes of 20-year-old CrossFit trainers, we pressed on, undeterred trying to forget that we are the opposite. The trail, though challenging, generously rewarded our efforts with breathtaking views of the reservoir and, upon reaching the summit, a majestic panorama of the ocean unfolded before our eyes. The ascent was no ordinary hike; it played tricks on our perseverance, with false summits that promised us a rest. Yet, every step was rewarded with more awe-inspiring scenery. The descent, while equally steep, injected an adrenaline-fueled thrill, as we navigated the trail with caution to avoid relinquishing control and careening down the mountain uncontrollably. An extremely steep area and a burner on the legs, not for the faint of heart. The inherent danger of the trail, set ag...

Daley Ranch Park- Cougar Pass Trailhead, Escondido California

Image
Discovering the trailhead just an 11-minute drive from our accommodations in scenic Escondido, California was a delightful surprise. The journey through the picturesque hills unfolded into an adventure as we transitioned from paved roads to gravel and meandered along high cliff roads, albeit a bit nerve-wracking without guard rails. Free parking awaited us across the road from the trail entrance, setting the stage for our exploration. While the availability of dog poop bags at the entrance was a thoughtful touch, it seems not all pet owners are responsible, leaving us to navigate around more than a few regrettable surprises along the way. The trail, though not without its challenges, presented a unique charm. Strewn with small rocks, it demanded a bit of attention while walking. The inclines were steep, providing a workout, and although we never quite reached the summit, the trail unfolded with panoramic views of the valley that made the effort worthwhile. Embarking on this hike twice,...

Marriott Club Son Antem, Mallorca Spain

Image
Choosing this location for a two-week stay was a great decision. Its proximity to Palma, the capital, and the convenience of being within an hour of any destination on the island make it an ideal hub for exploring Mallorca's beauty. This is the backside of our villa with the outdoor terrace. Our villa, though with the inconvenience of having both bathrooms upstairs, provided a comfortable and enjoyable stay. The Landing on the stairs. The resort is very large with many pools.  We enjoyed our 2 bedroom/2 bathroom villa.  There was an outdoor terrace to enjoy the sun and eat outside. The kitchen was well-equipped like all Marriott kitchens. I liked the laundry room which was a separate room. The bed was ultra comfortable and I enjoyed the size of the bathrooms and the large bathtub. The spare bedroom This would have been better downstairs. A unique aspect of the resort was the presence of approximately 120 cats, cared for by volunteers. It's a charming sight, though the c...

Palma Cathedral UNESCO, Banos Arabes UNESCO and Palma Christmas Lights, Mallorca Spain

Image
The last memorable photo of Mallorca was of the Cathedral. Our second attempt to visit the Palma Cathedral proved successful after the initial disappointment of finding it closed on our first try. Stepping into this UNESCO-awarded masterpiece of Gothic architecture was nothing short of enchanting. Spanning a staggering 400 years of construction, the Palma Cathedral stands as one of Spain's most magnificent cathedrals, renowned for its breathtaking rose windows, intricate stained glass, and awe-inspiring sculptures. Walking through its ancient interior, I was captivated by the soaring ceilings, and an overwhelming sense of peace and tranquillity enveloped me. Inside the Cathedral's museum upon entry is an important marble sculpture of Mary and Baby Jesus. This solid silver headpiece was crafted for a sculpture of Mary to wear.  Many jewels are displayed underneath. The opulent doorway would be the most impressive that my eyes have seen. Constructed from the 13th century onward,...
