Holocaust Museum of Los Angeles

We just went through the Holocaust Museum of Los Angeles and man was that overwhelming.  I consider myself a history buff with a major in history in my education degree and I am just shy of a History degree.  I've read about 75  Holocaust Survivor autobiographies.   I visited the Auschwitz death camp museum in Poland and Dachau Concentration Camp in Germany.   And I found this Museum very overwhelming.  There are over 500 plus vignettes of information in this museum where you can read or listen- your choice.  They provide you with a complimentary device to coordinate the spoken information to the photos or artifacts.  If you give a piece of ID as collateral, they will give you electronic devices to take the tour of the museum with and you can also buy headsets for $1 or bring your own.

The museum is free on Sundays from 1 to 5 and we coincidentally went at this time of the day.  However, we made a donation to the museum when we checked in for the same amount as the ticket price.  Go online and click through the motions of purchasing your free tickets to get registered.  You must show them this on your phone when you enter around back through the park.

The building is very non-descript and I am glad that I did some research first.  The roof is a live roof of grasses and plants on a sloped roof.  You could drive by and think it was just a hill.

I would highly recommend this museum.  It had very vivid details with enlarged poster-sized photographs everywhere with an abundance of artifacts and testimonies.
Deniers need to visit this museum and give their heads a shake.

We spent just under 2 hours in this Museum and I had to pull the plug because I was too overloaded with the fact that this was allowed to happen.  The Museum does bombard your senses and saturates you very quickly.  I still find this unforgettable piece of our human history to be horribly fascinating and depressing as hell.  Evil is always here, we just have to keep fighting it.  This is what intrigues me so much.  The Jews kept their faith and never gave up.  Their spirit is indomitable and admirable.

Everyone should visit this Museum for several reasons.  The main reason is that anti-Semitism is on the rise and we all need to fight intolerance of any kind.
Let's wake up and educate ourselves.

I took a photo of the URL code so that I can listen in my own free time and take in the information step by step at my own pace.

Parking is always a problem in Los Angeles but we actually spotted a Ross Dress for Less and parked in their lot.  If you purchase something you get free parking for 3 hours and the museum is a 5-minute walk away.  We can always find something to purchase at Ross.  Otherwise, you can park in the mall parkade for 10 USD.

The building itself is not that large and you could literally walk right past it because it is so strange looking with its grass roof, and very low profile doorway.  It really does look like a hill.

Go and visit this museum, it is much more important than taking in the Hollywood tourist spectacles.
