Griffith Park Observatory Los Angeles
Griffith Park Observatory is one of the free things that you can do in Los Angeles city. I would highly recommend it if you are into older beautiful buildings and great views. We drove our car to the free parking at the Greek Theatre Parking. There must have been several hundred spots to park. There is also a bathroom if you look hard enough. This free parking is at the base of the hill where the observatory sits. From there it is a 1-mile hike up the mountain. I found the walk-up highly invigorating, good exercise and amazing views of Los Angeles city along the way.
The Observatory is one way to see the Hollywood Sign, although it is far away. You can take some selfies but the sign is in the background and very small.
There is a lot of information inside the building on astronomy and observation etc. Personally, I was more into the architecture of the building with the original marble tile floors and pillars. There are many observation decks where you can take copious amounts of pictures of the LA skyline.
There is a movie that you can pay to watch once you're in the building and there is a planetarium if you'd like to pay. The views are spectacular during the day and towards dusk which was when we left. As we were headed down the mountain, there were lots of couples and people headed up to the observatory to see the lights and skyline of LA in the dark.
