Balandra Beach, La Paz Mexico

Balandra Beach is incredible!

I have been to so many beaches around the world that I barely can remember them all, but this beach is truly unique.  It is glorious water to walk through and explore for a whole afternoon.

It is located approximately 30 minutes north of La Paz, Mexico and it is a quick and interesting drive to get there.

Balandra Beach is a national park and the government only allows 400 people in at once so there seemed to be a morning crowd that came  and went, when the sirens went off.  We came around noon and we were on the second cycle.  They told us we would be allowed in at 1:00 so we got in the line up with our car. Instead of waiting in a hot car for an hour, Dax and I headed up the hill once we spotted a trial.  We hiked up to the top and got some very good pictures.

There was no charge to get into the National Park which surprised me.

Balandra Beach has several visible hiking trails, so before we got in the water Dax and I took another trail up to the highest peak which overlooked the whole bay area of Balandra beach.

When the tide is in or out this is an excellent area for young children.   There are no waves, it's very calm and it's extremely shallow.  When we got in the water after 1:30, the water was receding already and it leaves wavy sand surface areas all over the place which are also great for playing Frisbee, which we did.

The water is so shallow that most of the time you're in ankle to calf height water and you can walk to all of the beaches through the water or via the sand beaches or the rockier areas.

There are some cool rocky out-crops that are great for picture taking moments but in all honesty everywhere in Balandra Beach area is a picture-taking moment.  The waters are on the turquoise spectrum of color and there's many sailboats parked out in the bay and lots

of birds to take pictures of as well.  Dax even saw a group of rays swimming in the water.

There are several Palapa shades on the beach to give some shade from the heat of the day.

There are rustic bathroom facilities which you can choose to tip to get your toilet paper or not. There's no running water in the bathrooms to wash up with and there are no change areas .  I chose to change into my bikini on the beach underneath a towel.

There are no food services in Balandra Beach.  Bring water and snacks.

Towards the end of the day when I was walking back to our beach area where we had set up under a Palapa shade, I heard what I thought was symphony music.  When I rounded the corner around the rock outcrop I saw that it was a dude in a kayak playing the flute.  He was amazingly talented.  It was a nice ending to this beautiful, tranquil beach discovery day.
