Villa del Palmar Cabo San Lucas Mexico

We stayed in a two-bedroom three bathroom unit at the Villa Del Palmar.  We lucked out and got a side balcony that had a view of the ocean and the rocks that surround El Arco, it was quite a nice view.


This is the first timeshare we've ever stayed in that did not have an actual primary bedroom. Both the bedrooms were identical with identical washrooms.  Unlike the ridiculously small TV in the living room, the bedroom TVs were overly huge.  The king-size bed was the most comfortable bed that we have ever slept on in any timeshare unit around the world. When I took a look at it the top of the mattress said the Villa group so the Villa group must get their own mattresses made to specifications from some particular mattress company.

The kitchen was adequate with granite countertops a two-burner stove and a full-size refrigerator.  There was no dishwasher or oven included but most Mexican timeshares would be identical to this format.  We did not cook that much because we like to try a lot of the different taco restaurants and find our favourite one so that we can return in future years.

The living room was on the tinier side with the ridiculously small TV on the wall.  The furniture was very comfortable and it included the funkiest Fuchsia Rose velvet-like chair, with matching fabric on the counter stools.

Our unit was in building 3, where when coming down the stairs to outside the views were very nice with the cruise ships when they were in.









The beach area is nice because it is on Medano Beach, which is a swimming beach and the views of the rocks surrounding El Arco or very beautiful.


The pool areas are great!  We didn't have a problem finding a lounge chair and there is a place down by the lower pool to get your towels.

The workout area was great as well.  What was very nice at the Villa Del Palmar was that you could go into the bathroom of the fitness areas and use their complimentary hydrotherapy circuit which is the showers, sauna, steam room and whirlpool.

The laundry area was very large and clean we did three loads of washing and three loads of the dryer and it was $17 US.

There are tennis courts and pickleball courts and we frequented the pickleball courts almost every day.  The couple that stayed with us in our unit thankfully had brought their own paddles and balls because the resort did not have any pickleball balls.  The only people that played were the people that brought their own balls which I thought was quite stupid.  Why have pickleball courts if you don't have pickle balls?

We rented a car so we could drive to a different taco place every night and drive around the area but it isn't that long of a walk to any taco place if you wanted to go.  Apparently One and Only Taco was only a 10 to 15-minute walk away.  We did not make it there as they closed earlier for supper than the others.



There was entertainment every night for the all-inclusive people which we were not but you can stand on the outside and watch for free.

We happened to be there for New Year's Eve.  There was a great set of fireworks on the Public Beach just down from Villa del Palmer.  There was also a drone light show which was spectacular because we have never seen one before.











If you choose to sit down at the beach there is a roped-off area for the Villa del Palmer patrons with some palapas shade and lounge chairs.  The peddlers were fairly aggressive and would sometimes walk into the roped-off areas. Once they got the idea that you didn't want to purchase anything then they left you alone.

The free internet was very dodgy and made the study of my Espanole a bit frustrating with intermittent internet issues.  The internet was probably one of the worst internet systems that we've ever experienced at a timeshare.  Some of the other families that were with us had to go to the lobby to try and check in for their return flight to Canada because they could not get a strong enough signal at the pool area. One had the choice to purchase a 20 US dollar per day plan for high speed, we did not choose this.  We felt that this was just a money grab.

We heard about this climb from Darren's niece who had done the exact climb last week.  Whenever you do a search on hikes in the Los Cabos area, this Mount Solmar hike does not come up.  I would highly recommend it though because it was a great deal of fun and it was challenging.  I went with 3 friends and to top it all off there was a bunch of dogs walking with us up the mountain.   Enrique runs a Dog Training Center.  He started this hike with dogs to train them most likely. And now people join him for free and climb up Mount Solmar with the dogs. Ixtapa Island- Ixtapa, Mexico

This is Coral Beach on Ixtapa Island The kids wanted to go to Ixtapa Island because this is where the best snorkeling is located in the Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo areas.  When we first started asking around and getting price quotes for this, we were getting prices anywhere from 90 - 110 American per person for a day trip to Ixtapa Island.  Anyone who knows us know that we hate organized tours because you get herded around like cattle, you don't get to make your own decisions and 90% of the time they are a rip-off for something that you can organize yourself.   Once the kids found out how expensive it was they began to research this trip and they realized that it's quite achievable to do without a tour or a tour guide for a fraction of the cost. Kuilau Ridge Trail - Kauai, Hawaii

My son Dax wanted to do this trail because it was in the interior of the island in the Rain Forest of Kauai. Some unusual Dr. Seuss like plants behind Kim. There is quite a bit of parking available before and after the bridge. There are washrooms available, they are super gross of the non flushing kind and the smell was really bad worse than your average outdoor Biffy. The trail begins at the yellow metal gates and there is a lot of elevation to climb up for the first section.  Eventually you get to the pretty views of a multitude of greens. You can literally take a ton of photos because every view is gorgeous! The forest is thick with some scary steep drop offs but the trail is wide enough for safety  You can continue for a longer trail for another 3.2 miles past the bridge but our hike was already going to be 2 hours round trip so we stopped at the bridge.
