Marco Island, Florida

We'd never been to Marco Island before and I have wanted to see it for a couple of reasons.  Orishia one of my friends who have since passed used to say it was her favourite place in the whole world.  Since then I have always wanted to visit Marco Island.  The second reason was to visit family friends of the Cannells Penny and George who live on Marco in the winter months.

Penny and George who are a lot of fun, treated us to a great boat ride in the intercoastal areas of Marco.  We were going to go out into the Gulf with the boat but there were some white caps and it was too rough.

After the boat ride, we jumped into our car and we all went to the beach.  The beach is wide and beautiful and it was extremely windy that day.

After a visit to the beach, we drove to Penny and George's favourite restaurant called Capri Fish House Restaurant and they treated us to supper.

This restaurant had a great ambience and was quite beachy and right over the water.

If you have a dollar bill you can borrow their stapler and marker to write whatever you want to on the dollar bill and staple it to any surface in the entire restaurant I thought that was pretty unique.

Penny and George are very familiar with the island and where all the mansions are so we went for a half-hour drive of all the mansions and that was quite cool.  I never get tired of looking at huge properties.  On this tour, we did see some burrowing owls and some tortoises on an open lot.  These animals are endemic to Marco.
I would return to Marco Island to spend a nice holiday as the beach is quite lovely.

This would of could of been such an awesome photo if my big head was not in the way.  I still suck at group selfies. (Apologies to Darren and Penny, who are behind my big cranium)
