The Loch Rannoch Highland Club (Studio)- Kinloch Rannoch, Perthshire, Scotland
I booked this timeshare for one reason and this was to hike the Scottish Highlands. I had never seen this timeshare come up on Interval before, so I grabbed it even though it was only a studio. In North America, the studio is pretty standard with a bed, bathroom and sometimes a kitchenette but here in Scotland, we ended up with a full complete kitchen and no real bed which was strange. We had our pick between a Murphy Bed or the Couch Hide-a-bed.
The pros of this timeshare are that it has beautiful views of the loch from the sunroom. We are on the second floor so we have great views also of the surrounding highland hills. The con to this sunroom is that it leaks profusely. There are 3 seats in the sunroom and the loveseat was not useable because it was soaking wet the whole week. I am currently moping up all of the leaks from the useless roof in this sunroom. The former maintenance guy works at the convenience store in Kinloch Rannoch and he said that they have had problems since the beginning and have never been fixed properly. It is a shame because the surrounding windows in the sunroom are of good quality. I have the garbage can catching a steady and loud continual stream from one roof leak. The good news is that I no longer have to go to the gym because I am getting a great arm workout with the mop and squeegee setup that this unit has supplied in the back closet. Climbing the hills has provided my legs and cardio with great workouts. We did visit the gym once which has loch views to work out to and I was quite impressed with the array of equipment this resort has but I never used them because we have been hiking every day.
The heater in the unit, sunroom and bathroom works well. We left the the bathroom heater off except when bathing, hence a freezing cold toilet seat awaited us each time nature called.
The unit is in desperate need of being released from the 1970s. Even though the cabinets are of decent quality they are beyond ugly and the bar set up in the Murphy bed unit would better serve the patrons with shelves to place their clothes. The sunroom roof needs to be replaced and the entire unit needs to be renovated for this century. I gave this timeshare a 2 star only because the kitchen is well stocked with everything you may need except for scissors, otherwise, this place would have received a 1 star.
The studio timeshares are next door to the hotel if you want to get a drink from the bar or eat at the restaurant, it is conveniently close. We ate twice at the Wild Brownie and it has potential but both of my meals were extremely bland but the presentation was good. Their sommelier needs to step it up and choose much better wines though. The restaurant meals were expensive so I expected more.
Kinloch Rannoch is a small village about a 10-minute walk away and there is a little grocery store and a couple of restaurants available to you. It is quite picturesque and was founded in the 1700s after the Jacobite rebellion. The road off of the A9 highway to this small village is very narrow and typical of Scottish secondary roads.
There are sheep everywhere and they do come into the resort area of the Highland Club.
The unit was cozy and there are a lot of places to explore from this area such as Blair Castle, Menzies Castle (call first to see if Menzies is open because the day we went it was closed for a private event), The Birks of Aberfeldy and all of the highland hikes at your disposal. I would come to this resort again but I would check if the studio unit sunroom roofs have been replaced first before booking. (My last full day here at this resort was spent moping the sunroom so that it did not flood from Storm Babet's rain)
