Omodos Village and Vlassides Vineyard, Cyprus

Omodos is approximately a 30-minute drive from where we were staying at Aphrodite Hills in Kouklia.  Omodos is a mountain village in Cyprus that many people visit to shop and walk around the narrow cobbled streets.  There are many old buildings and some nice things to see.  I believe that they have outpriced themselves.  Their sterling silver is overpriced and even their coffee shops are more expensive than Starbucks.  There are some quaint streets to walk through and every building has this same light colored creamy stone.

The Monastery of the Holy Cross was worth going to see.  It is completely free of charge and cool to walk around in.

One of the doors out into Omodos as you leave the Monastery.

The ceiling in the upper hallway of the Monastery.

The wood ceiling and wall was stunning.

Corey is feeling tall at the Monastery.

Various shopping along the streets of Omodos.

Inside a small wine museum with wine urns.

We thought this dog was stuck in the railing but when we approached him he growled and barked and would have bit all of our heads off.

The drive to Vlassides Vineyard was quite thrilling.  We passed through a tiny village with the tightest hairpin roads that you could imagine and thank goodness we did not pass one vehicle.  We continued on our way towards the vineyard with some high cliff roads.

We passed a goat-sheep-herder that had two German Shepherds to help herd his animals.

When we got to Vlassides Vineyard, the employee did not seem very happy to see us because we did not have a reservation.  It wasn't like they were bursting at the seams.  He seated us and we took a look at the menu and decided on a 4 wine tasting of two white and two red with cheese.  All of the wines were excellent and the cheeses were as well.  It was only 10 euros per person.  The building was very modern and we would have loved to get down into the basement and the making of the wines but tours only take place at 11 am.
