Tomb of The Kings, UNESCO World Heritage Site, Paphos, Cyprus

The Tomb of Kings is a fantastic site to walk and explore.  If you like to walk around and discover hidden tombs, then this place is for you.  It was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980 and it is surprising how little money has gone into preserving and protecting it.  You can walk on and into all of the tombs.  There are 8 main tombs on the audio tour that you download with a QR code.  This is new since we were here last in 2010.  There are numerous other tombs to explore.

Corey going down into a tomb.

Coming out of a tomb.

The tombs are in various states of disrepair due to age, earthquakes, erosion and vandalism.  The tombs date back to the third century.  Many of the tombs still have their roof or the top of the cave still intact.  This one to the right does not.

Bodies of the wealthy and royalty would have been placed in these different open squares.  This arch still has the painted plaster still intact on it.

The Tomb of the Kings site overlooks the Mediterranean Sea and it can get quite hot with the sun on you for hours.  It is strenuous to climb in and out of the Tombs because the steps are not necessarily for stepping but more for climbing.

This tomb to the right is the most elaborate and it had a roof on it at one time. It is amazing to think that it was all carved out of a rock cave.  There would have been a limited amount of bodies in this particular tomb as it only had a few areas to place bodies.

The two to the right do not like history and usually choose to sit it out rather than explore, YAWN.

The history in Cyprus is mind-boggling and it is just lying around everywhere.

The vegetation is quite unique in Cyprus.

Our plan was to try and make it to the Tala Cat Sanctuary again for our second attempt.  When we arrived it had already closed.  Some kitty kats were not inside the closure and they came running up to us as soon as we pulled up in the car.  We thought they were hungry so we spread out some cat food for them, that I had purchased.  They did not want it, they wanted love and affection.

The Sanctuary closes at 1:00 pm and apparently, there are now 500 cats in care.  I am not sure why these cats were not in the Sanctuary yet?  Maybe they are being monitored for their health first?

This little darling was my favourite!  If I wasn't allergic I would have snatched her and taken her back to Canada.
