North Lykken Trail, Palm Springs

We left our timeshare late in the day and arrived at the trailhead at 2:00 pm and 30 degrees in the heat of the day and this was a mistake.  This trail is littered with large dark boulders and rocks and they radiate heat, bringing up the trail's temperature even more.  There is absolutely no shade on this trail at this time of day.  I would have enjoyed this trail more if it wasn't so hot.  Hiking up to the first peak was ok but then moving onto the second peak, the heat started to get to me.  There isn't a breeze on this trail until you climb over the second peak.

Sun rays blasting the photo on the top left corner.  It was HAWT!

Darren is in the middle of the photo trying to secure some non-existent shade.

There is free parking on the road and it is not busy because the mountain makes it a dead end.  No dogs are allowed on this trail and it was not that busy with humans either.

The views are great!

Some beautiful healthy cacti in this photo.

You can continue to hike and walk out at the Palm Springs Art Museum or turn around and hike back to where we left our car.

I would highly recommend this trail on a cloudy or cooler day and earlier in the morning.  It is a very pretty hike with great views and if you like boulders and rocks then this trail is for you.
