| Not so welcoming 😐 I believe we were the only people this century that traversed this trail. |

| After a long hike uphill we were rewarded with a beautiful view of Playa La Ropa . |
From La Ropa you can actually see Playa Los Gatas. The walk can be fairly easy or fairly hard depending on which road you take. We unfortunately took the roadway to Las Gatas and it was straight up hill for 2 km and then we had to go straight downhill through the jungle on a precarious path. However, it was a great workout in the hot Mexican sun.

Las Gatas Beach is a perfect place for a beginner snorkeler to get used to the water because the waves gently lap up onto the beach and do not go over your head. The water is warm and it is a great place for young children or people that like calm waters. While the kids were snorkeling Darren decided to get a massage for 250 pesos for an hour. I still had some situation in my back from digging up and going to war with Lily of the Valley plants that are agressive as hell. Darren's masseuse lady knew what she was doing and did a great job. My lady unfortunately did not know anything about massage. It felt like a third grader on my back who was bored and had ADHD. In fact she actually hurt my lower back and I was none too happy but I still paid her 250 pesos for pissing me off and causing me to use roll-on back pain remover that night. So beware of who your masseuse is on the beach?????
There are many restaurants situated beach side and this is where the only chairs are located. So if you would like a chair you will need to buy a drink or eat some food at a restaurant.
The snorkeling gear rental place is at the North end of Las Gatas Beach and it was 100 pesos to rent a mask and snorkel for the day.
You don't have to walk to this beach you can take a water taxi to Las Gatas. You cannot drive there. You either have to walk or take a water taxi and we walked there and back. On the way back we walked right past the water taxi Pier because it can only drop you off in town. We made our way onto these large black boulders which protected the land from erosion. This was a fun walk for approximately half a kilometer which gets you to the Promenade which is south of La Ropa Beach.
Along the way two manta rays, swam up and down the beach and entertained us in the water and Promenade area.

Playa Las Gatas was a nice day trip. Its quite affordable if you want to just walk there on your own and rent equipment. We grabbed a shaded area in one of the restaurants and ordered some food and drinks. Basically we were paying for the shade.
The kids had fun snorkeling, it was Rachel's first time snorkeling and she thought it was fantastic. If you are a beginner then it most likely was.
Overall it was a nice day of exploring!
