Grand Solmar Pacific Dunes - Los Cabos, Mexico

What keeps drawing us back to the Grand Solmar is the whale-watching and the beautiful water and beach.

We have stayed here before and loved it enough to return. Grand Solmar Pacific Dunes is a lovely place to stay.  In fact I miss it already as I am  checking into this next resort.  If you like whales or if you are fascinated by whales you can watch them frolic, breach, spout and feed right off of your balcony at Grand Solmar Pacific Dunes.
All of these photos were taken from the pool at Grand Solmar Pacific Dunes.

I was zooming in with my Google 8Pro cell phone and I just missed the whale tail up
 in it's glory.

The tell-tale whale spout is ever present.

The splash down.  These beauties are 50-60 feet long so they create such a splash in the water.

Does it ever get old?? I don't think so.

Checking in for the second time to this Resort was just as sweet with a Margarita to welcome you, what can go wrong?  Actually there is a method to their madness. If you drink a strong margarita you are most likely going to say yes to a timeshare talk.  But this is not my first rodeo.  We have already done a Solmar Group Talk at Loreto, Mexico and although I would love to own, we don't need anymore timeshares.

We were located into a different building this time. We were in building B which didn't give us full frontal of the beach but gave us about 80%.  The only complaint about this particular balcony was that it did not have any relief from the sun as shade is necessary here in Los Cabos.  We made the most of it by getting up early and by 9:00 a.m, you had to get off the balcony. It was just too hot, and then by about 4:45 in the afternoon you could seek some relaxation on the balcony again because it was half in shade.

This is a very relaxing resort, it's good for families, friends, romance you name it.  However this is not a swim-able beach unless you're a whale. The waves can be 20 ft high. This time around, the waves were a little bit smaller. But you have never seen a wider longer beach of sand though. It is great for taking long walks and there are killer sunsets.

The resort.

I would have to say that the second time around our room was even nicer than the first time, it looked actually brand new.  The kitchen was gorgeous with everything that you would need except for two very important things, a dishwasher and an oven.  We don't mind doing our own dishes. I mean we could have left them for the maid, but we're not that kind of people.  We managed without the oven because we had the 6 burner stove top instead.  The refrigerator did not have an ice machine but we called for ice the first night and they brought us two hefty bags of ice which actually lasted us the whole week.  If I was going to remodel my kitchen it would look a lot like this kitchen. It had gorgeous tiles and cupboards and a two-tiered counter top, instead of a dining room you sat around the island.

The living room was very pretty with a extremely large sectional and another chair, so this would easily seat six to eight people. I mostly sat outside, I think I sat down on the couch twice the whole week.

Our bedroom was amazing. It had a very comfortable bed.  The bathtub was the perfect length with a gorgeous chandelier over top.  The shower was large and felt amazing on the skin.  Separate vessel sinks were across the large bathroom from each other. There was a separate water closet or toilet with it's own door.

The storage in our bedroom was exactly what we needed for the two of us and usually that doesn't happen.  Our suite had its own small balcony but to be honest we never used it because there wasn't any furniture on it and it was not that large.

The spare bedroom had two beds and full access to the main balcony.  They had a large bathroom with two sinks and a large shower.  We were in a two bedroom, three bathroom unit and to be honest the third bathroom rarely got any use.  There were four of us total and this was a perfect amount of space for the four of us.

Pretty third bathroom art work in 3D.

We frequented the pool because you really don't have a choice at this resort.  The beach is not equipped with lounge chairs because I believe the erratic nature of the waves would not allow for this.

The large pool has a sand entry and it is big enough to SUP and Kayak.  It was a lot hotter and did not have clear views of the water/whales.  We did not sit at this pool.

That doesn't mean that the beach wasn't safe to walk along. The very last night we went for a sunset walk about half of a kilometer and it was gorgeous and the sunset was amazing.

Grand Solmar Pacific Dunes is on the west side of Cabo San Lucas where they are building up a new corridor of resorts. The resort is quite isolated but if you have a car rental then it's not too bad. There is a 2 km drive off of the highway down to the resort and it is quite scenic as you drive down.

I would say that the only thing lacking at this resort is shade. They do need a lot more umbrellas because the sun is that intense. There are many different pools to choose from at this resort and most of them have full ocean view which is great because you can continue to watch the whales at beach level.

We only ate twice at the resort because we like to cook our own meals.  The first meal we had shrimp tacos at the pool bar and those were quite good.  The second meal that we had we went to Bucari. It was Burger night and the burgers were especially tasty.  Honestly the drinks at happy hour were too expensive for my taste and so we bought alcohol at the grocery store La Comer and made our own drinks and our own Happy Hour.  It's mind-boggling why resorts charge so much for their drinks. When if they brought the price down by 50% they would not only sell a hundred times more drinks but they would employ a lot more people.

Lobby Christmas Tree.

Burger Night at Bucari.

It wasn't a Blue Moon that night but my camera made it look like that.

The Wifi at this resort was very poor.  If you had to work on your laptop during your holiday you would be a very frustrated person because the speeds of the internet were registering at dial-up levels and I am not exaggerating.  I did not get very much done on my blog this week at Grand Solmar because it was too frustrating to load photos etc.  This was in the room.  Once you left for the pool you could not Google anything or check your email because it was so incredibly slow that you would just put your phone away and maybe this was a good thing.  My phone was out constantly down at the pool because the whales were demanding my attention as they swam by. They were up to all sorts of antics that demanded photos to be taken.

There are lots of seating areas.

Zoomed in photo taken of a cruise ship taken from our balcony.

We definitely would return to this resort for the third time. It's just a matter of time when we do return.  There is a new building being built and so I am thinking 2026 or 2027????

There are numerous hummingbirds at this resort.  This was the female as she flew away.

This was the male hummingbird and he sat there and posed for 5 minutes for me.  I did not know that they ever sit that long without movement.

It is a beautiful resort and there biggest drawing card for me is the constant whale activity from December to April.

Not to go Terminator on this resort or anything but

"We will be back!"
