Tom Thumb Trail, North Scottsdale Arizona

This was the second time around for this trail and it was even more special this time because our son Daxtin was with us.  This is one of my favorites because it is challenging on the first mile straight up the mountain with some switchbacks to help out with the steepness but this trail is also beautiful.

Darren made it to the top of the first section and stopped at the saddle and slowly made his way down which is very hard on bad knees.

Dax and I continued the .6 of a mile up to Tom's Thumb.  This is the prettiest part of the trail with large precariously placed boulders.  Many look like if you just gave them a good shove they would tumble down the mountain.  But rest assured they are quite stable.
This is at the base of the Thumb looking through the rock to North Scottsdale

Under the Information center and washroom area with the point of Tom Thumb's Rock sticking up at the highest point in the background.

After a hard hike.

This gorgeous hawk was posing in a tree on the side of the road.

I highly recommend this trail and I will do it again when we return to the Scottsdale area.
