Wyndham Paniola Greens-Waikoloa Hawaii on The Big Island of Hawaii

Taken from the Paniola Greens parking lot. |
This was our first time staying at Paniola Greens. It is quite a large Resort with many 3 story buildings. Our unit was G207 and it was a two-story apartment with four access balconies, which is more balconies than I've ever had in a timeshare before. The views were varied and pretty from our unit.

These were all of our views off of all of our balconies. |

We had a peekaboo view of the ocean. |
Upon first entry into the front door entrance, you're confronted with a kitchen wall which is very unsightly.
Renovations are occurring soon and they can't come soon enough for this poor sad kitchen. But in my experience of ugly timeshare kitchens, they make up for it by having it very well stocked with different utensils, bowls and dishes. This is very much the case at Paniola Greens.
The living room and dining room are quite large with access to a fairly large balcony and with views of the golf course or ocean. We had views of the golf course this time and a barbecue but most importantly the wild turkeys were our prime view.

They are very interesting and entertaining to watch and not to mention quite a huge bird. Later in the week the Hawaiian Geese showed up and they are much more elegant and pretty to look at. There are many song birds that frequent the area as well.
We were lucky enough to have a Plumeria Tree off of our kitchen balcony and the smell was so pretty and so Hawaiian.
Off of the kitchen is two glass doors that open up to a balcony exit and this also lets sun into the kitchen which is nice but it is a little strange and I've never encountered doors like this in a timeshare before.
Upstairs were two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The bed in the master was extremely comfortable. Another strange layout in this apartment is that there is almost a walk-through closet into the bathroom but should have actually been made into a doorway.
One of the bathrooms is equipped with a bathtub which I like and ample space for me. My husband had the other bathroom to himself. There is also a closet upstairs which contains a washing machine and dryer and another closet that houses the security box.

The resort has a fairly good sized pool with a very tiny workout area and there is an outdoor ping pong machine, ping pong table and an inside pool table.
The resort is quiet and up on a hill with great views of the Pacific Ocean and unforgettable sunsets.
Assuming that the renovation is going to open that kitchen up with an island, I believe that we would not hesitate to return to these timeshares in a few years. They are comfortable and homey and well equipped.
There is a very pretty beach about a 1 minute drive from the resort to the Westin Hapuna Beach Resort where there is free parking that the gate people will give you a pass.
The surrounding countryside is gorgeous and varied.

The ever present old lava flows. |

Driving down towards Waikoloa from Highway 19 and in the clouds. |
Waikoloa Village is in the northwest of the big island of Hawaii and there is a grocery store less than a 2-minute drive away. That is as convenient as you are going to get on the Big Island. To drive anywhere, whether you're staying in Kona or Hilo or Waikoloa, it is usually a long drive to get anywhere that you would like to see. But the good news is along the way are great views.
