Club Cala Blanca, Hilton Grand Vacation Club, Gran Canaria, Spain

Overly large balconies equipped with two chaise loungers as well as a table and 4 chairs.

 I got a stupendous deal on a week at this resort from Interval International,  I could not resist.  It turned out to be a good decision.

It was nice little one bedroom apartment with an amazing balcony which was absolutely humongous. It had a very complete but compact kitchen with gorgeous windows that gave it beautiful sunlight during the day. A dining room, a small living room and a fairly decent sized bathroom and a small bedroom. But there was a king size bed and lots of closet space. It was a very comfortable unit. 
















Even though the kitchen was small, it
was equipped with a filtrated water tap for drinking water.  This is a wonderful
surprise to people that have been travelling for months and lugging huge purchased water bottles from grocery stores to their accommodation.  This is the second Hilton Grand Vacation Club property in Europe that has had this and it was very much appreciated by us.  This also helps to combat plastic waste. Bravo!

Some things we did not like is it had one of those couches where the cushions continue to slip out which was highly annoying. One other thing was that there were no English channels except for the left slanted news channels. Probably 50% of the channels were in German and 50% Spanish channels which is understandable. There is no parking to speak of near by so you have to be prepared for about a 12 minute walk uphill to the Club Cala Blanca.  Drop your luggage off before you go and park.  Sometimes you can luck out and grab a spot closer but there is still a walk up hill.

The views were incredible. I would think every unit has an ocean view. We also had a view of this large hotel in front of us which at night time was very pretty after it was all lit up.

It's a good location in the South of Gran Canaria where its usually always warm. It is now a 15 minute drive to Puerto de Mogan due to the road closure of the cliff side road.  The Maspolmas Sand Dunes are about 10 minutes drive away and lots of shopping in Puerto Rico Mogan Mall. 

Sand Dunes are worth a visit.

The closest grocery store that we found was in the Mogan Mall in Puerto Rico which was a beautiful mall.

There was a laundry machine that cost 5 Euro for the washing machine and four Euro for the dryer. 

We went to the restaurant the one night and it was good. I had a nice glass of wine. The pizza was good.  Overall we were very happy with the resort. It was probably equivalent to a three-star but cute and compact and well worth what I paid.

Kuilau Ridge Trail - Kauai, Hawaii

My son Dax wanted to do this trail because it was in the interior of the island in the Rain Forest of Kauai. Some unusual Dr. Seuss like plants behind Kim. There is quite a bit of parking available before and after the bridge. There are washrooms available, they are super gross of the non flushing kind and the smell was really bad worse than your average outdoor Biffy. The trail begins at the yellow metal gates and there is a lot of elevation to climb up for the first section.  Eventually you get to the pretty views of a multitude of greens. You can literally take a ton of photos because every view is gorgeous! The forest is thick with some scary steep drop offs but the trail is wide enough for safety  You can continue for a longer trail for another 3.2 miles past the bridge but our hike was already going to be 2 hours round trip so we stopped at the bridge. Mediterranean Cruise- MSC World Europa October 6, 2025 Sailing

MSC World Europa in the background while in Messina, Italy . Naples, Italy   We had been to Naples Italy before and spent approximately 4 days there to explore in 2010 on our world tour.  We had visited Pompeii for the second time in 2013 at that point and it never failed to cause wonder.  Pompeii is an amazing archaeological site that is still an active dig site and will be for the next hundred or so years.  It is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site .  We arrived early into Naples and we had time to visit the National Museum which we had missed last visit.  This museum is extremely worthwhile because it contains most of the artifacts dug up from Pompeii and Herculaneum . Massive marble statue taken from the Grand Palace site .  Its the first time I have ever looked petite. Pinnacle Peak, North Scottsdale, Arizona

 This is not a challenging trail and the trail head was very close to the Four Seasons  Residence Club in North Scottsdale where we were staying.  There was one area that had me winded on the way up but for the most part the trail is wide enough for two people to walk and talk.  There are built in stairs that are a bit high for bad knees but all in all it was a comfortable trail with some interesting views. We set out as a group of 9 aged 21 to 65.  There is a place that you can set your cell phone into a stand to take timed shots so we took advantage of this with Zenon's phone. We headed up towards the pointy rock behind us.  We had some other things planned later that day so we finished about 60 percent of this trail and headed back.
