The Editory Ocean Way Hotel, Funchal, Madiera Island, Portugal

This hotel had just opened two weeks previously to us arriving.  It is in a great location and the rooms have water views and balconies.  I found a great grand opening deal at this 5 star establishment.

Probably the best thing about this hotel was the staff.  They were so helpful with everything.  They were young and well trained and one young man even helped me with my App for parking and came out to our car rental to help with the parking location, this was very sweet and appreciated.  The staff took pride in their work and were young, exuberant and obviously love their island, culture and country!

The room was very nice and thoughtfully laid out.  The bed was comfortable and each side had 4 pillows which we loved!  There was a shallow desk which I would not have chosen.

The Coffee station was in the closet, I would not have chosen this location with the safe and tiny fridge.

They had lovely cozy bath robes which I would add The Editory logo to.

The large TV was not yet programmed so it was useless to us unfortunately.  The room was well lit which is always appreciated.  The balcony was nice and private with lovely comfortable chairs.  The balcony doors were lovely and of amazing quality and blocked out sound.

The balcony had lovely large rock tiles

Tons of pillows and reading lights.

I loved the bathroom and the style of it.  The shower was heaven!  It had a magnifying mirror and a large mirror that you could light up.  I loved the seamless molded counter top design!  The bathroom door was large and heavy, heavy doors are good for blocking out sound.  The entire room was very quiet, we did not hear a soul.  The blow dryer is not up to 5 star standards and should be replaced.

The Kleenex box, new to me.

Long hallway into the room.

The deal I received with the hotel was complimentary buffet breakfast for the two mornings that we were here.  The food was good and they had everything that you could want including made to order omelets.  We also ate one dinner here and my husband had the Sea Bass and I had the Cod and both meals were creative and tasty!

My Cod dish.

Darren's Sea Bass.

The robe was so soft and comfortable but I would definitely add a branding logo to the slippers to make them less generic.  The sheets were high quality and they had just the right amount of weight to the coverlet.

We asked for a late checkout and this was also part of the hotel deal when booking this hotel.  We asked and received a 3:00 pm check out which was extra nice to have for us.

More attention to detail needs to be applied to the corridor carpets which are cheap and scream 2 star.  On floor 3 where we were there was zero detail and decor except one awful lamp that seemed misplaced.  I hope that these areas of the hotel are not quite finished?  The hotel lobby was homey, and pretty and completed with the welcoming smiles of the staff.

The surrounding area has many places to walk and there numerous restaurants in the area.

A Hibiscus variety that I had not seen before.

Just outside the door of the hotel, the blue Christmas lights lit up the surrounding area in Azul.

We would stay at this hotel again in a heartbeat.
