Pestana Grand, Funchal, Madeira Island Portugal


The Pestana Grand is a nice ocean front timeshare. We had a nice one bedroom unit and a studio that they were not able to join because they do not have lock off units. We had a very large balcony that spread out the width of the living room and bedroom. We had partial ocean view but mostly mountain view.















The kitchen was very small but it had a stove top and microwave so you could prepare some meals. It had a small bar fridge which I hate. 

The living room was an average size with a smaller TV. The dining area was a bit congested. There was an entrance hallway with a stand where you could put your purse. 


















The bathroom was a bit tight but it had a lovely comfortable tub which is always appreciated. 


The bedroom was a decent size with a desk and closet. 


The Pestana Grand was in a decent location in Funchal and you could drive anywhere you desired from the hotel. It did have underground parking at 12.75 Euro per night.
The unit was comfortable but the decor was a bit Vegas Glam for me.
The lobby is very large and it does give you the appearance of a grand hotel.

Kuilau Ridge Trail - Kauai, Hawaii

My son Dax wanted to do this trail because it was in the interior of the island in the Rain Forest of Kauai. Some unusual Dr. Seuss like plants behind Kim. There is quite a bit of parking available before and after the bridge. There are washrooms available, they are super gross of the non flushing kind and the smell was really bad worse than your average outdoor Biffy. The trail begins at the yellow metal gates and there is a lot of elevation to climb up for the first section.  Eventually you get to the pretty views of a multitude of greens. You can literally take a ton of photos because every view is gorgeous! The forest is thick with some scary steep drop offs but the trail is wide enough for safety  You can continue for a longer trail for another 3.2 miles past the bridge but our hike was already going to be 2 hours round trip so we stopped at the bridge. Mediterranean Cruise- MSC World Europa October 6, 2025 Sailing

Naples, Italy   We had been to Naples Italy before and spent approximately 4 days there to explore in 2010 on our world tour.  We had visited Pompeii for the second time in 2013 at that point and it never failed to cause wonder.  Pompeii is an amazing archaeological site that is still an active dig site and will be for the next hundred or so years.  It is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site .  We arrived early into Naples and we had time to visit the National Museum which we had missed last visit.  This museum is extremely worthwhile because it contains most of the artifacts dug up from Pompeii and Herculaneum . Massive marble statue taken from the Grand Palace site .  Its the first time I have ever looked petite. Swimming/Snorkeling with the Manatees- Crystal River Florida

We finally completed a bucket list item and that was swimming with the Manatees.  These gentle 'sea cows' are curious creatures and do not fear humans  They have no natural predators and they act like it in the water which is very sweet and innocent.  We went with SeaDaddy's out of Crystal River and we actually got a Groupon and saved a few dollars.  With this company, you rent your wetsuits through them.  The wetsuits help keep you warm and they actually help you float as well.  They provide snorkels and masks and the equipment is very new and well-maintained. They drove us on a bus to the marina where we got on a SeaDaddy pontoon boat.  Here is Harold the Captain and Darren get kitted out for the Manatee excursion.  These photos are shady due to the waterproof bag on the phone We were a party of four and another couple joined us, so there were just six of us on the pontoon.  Harold took us to a couple of amazing spots one was Three Sisters....
